(This post contains affiliate links.) I signed up for KiwiCo’s Kiwi Crate when I was looking for hands on projects for my lego loving kindergartener. With or without legos he’s a builder and a natural inventor. I wanted to see what he thought about the type of projects KiwiCo offers, plus it’s less planning and prep on my part.
KiwiCo is all about hands on learning, which is great for kinesthetic learners like my lego builder. They feature various science and art projects while also entwining other educational subject matters.
We were able to get a lot out of what KiwiCo sent us the first month. The Arcade kit came with an activity book along with an instruction booklet for the Claw Game project itself so that you could make even more of your finished product. The additional activities stretched out the project for two or three afternoons, giving them plenty to do with even more left.
I found the project to inspire them, getting their imaginative thinking fired up. Later that evening my spoken of lego builder was creating something else out of papertowel rolls, socks, and tape. I love to see his mind at work like this!
After completing the project I took some time to interview my two kiddos who put the project together. Here are their responses.
What did you think when you opened the project? I was surprised we were going to build the whole thing. At first I didn’t think we would be able to do it with the bolts and rubber bands and all the parts, but it looked really cool.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. I didn’t think we would ever be able to build it when we first got it, but when we followed the instructions we could do it! I think the easiest to build was the fuzzabug for the claw game.
Did you like how the project turned out?Yes, it was a lot of fun. I really liked that you could make a game out of it when we were done!
I loved witnessing the confidence being built up in my children as they completed this project. They were both so excited to see it all coming together with each step they took and without needing any real help from mom!
The second crate KiwiCo sent us is the Disk Launchers kit. See what we thought about that one here. Make sure to check back in as we share about our next Kiwi Crate inventions, and if you have any questions about the Arcade Kiwi Crate, please let me know in the comments!
